On Friday, April 25, 2025, the Anointed Reigning Mighty Youth (ARMY), the youth department of NETA Ministries, hosted a dynamic and transformative public speaking session designed to help young people sharpen their communication skills and step into their confidence. The atmosphere was one of curiosity, vulnerability, and boldness, as participants gathered not just to learn, but to grow.
The session was led by Mr. Cleveland Tomlinson, a celebrated debater and seasoned adjudicator who has represented Jamaica on international stages in countries such as Mexico, Thailand, and the United States. With his practical approach, engaging delivery, and a wealth of experience, Mr. Tomlinson guided the group through the essentials of conquering stage fright, structuring impactful messages, and connecting meaningfully with any audience.
From the outset, this wasn’t just another lecture, it was a hands-on, interactive experience. Mr. Tomlinson set the tone by creating a space that was both welcoming and challenging, encouraging participants to be brave and take the mic.
One participant reflected on the atmosphere, saying,
As the session progressed, participants began to open up and apply the techniques in real time. They were coached on everything from vocal control to audience engagement skills that many admitted they hadn’t fully considered before.
Another attendee shared,
Perhaps one of the most inspiring parts of the evening was watching the transformation happen before our eyes. Individuals who started the session hesitantly were soon standing tall, speaking clearly and passionately.
As one young person summed it up,
The session ended not just with applause, but with a deep sense of empowerment. What began as a simple invitation to improve public speaking became a space of bold expression, shared growth, and personal breakthrough.
As the ARMY continues to invest in developing young leaders, this session served as a reminder that when we learn to use our voices with purpose, we unlock the power to influence, inspire, and lead.
